Jeroen Dubbeldam is one of the worlds leading showjumping rider, representing Holland at many major championships Jeroen Dubbeldam won the individual gold medal at the Sydney olympics in 2000 riding the talented De Sjiem, in 2014 he was a member of the Dutch gold medal showjumping jumping team at the world equestrian as well as winning the individual event, again in 2015 Jeroen won individual and team gold at the European championships riding the horse Zenith, the same horse he would take to Rio where he finished 7th in the 2016 olympic games.

Jeroen Dubbeldam (born 15 April 1973 in Zwolle) is a Dutch show jumping champion. Jeroen Dubbeldam competed at the 2000 Summer Olympics held in Sydney, where he won a gold medal in Individual Jumping with the horse De Sjiem

It`s Double Dutch for Individual Showjumping Final in Sydney

2000--Sydney, Australia--Jeroen Dubbeldam of the Netherlands won the gold medal for show jumping, emerging victorious in a three-way jump-off from his compatriot Albert Voorn and Khaled Al Eid of Saudi Arabia.

The jumping final was held over two rounds, with the penalties for both rounds added together to determine the winners. The three medallists were tied on four penalties, one knocked rail, at the end of regulation competition. Dubbeldam and De Sjiem knocked no rails down in the jump-off, while Voorn and Al Eid both knocked one. Voorn secured silver with a better time.

Brazilian Rodrigo Pessoa, the 1998 world champion and gold medal favourite, had a disastrous last round. Riding last and needing a clear round to win gold, he knocked down a rail at the first jump and then his horse, Baloubet Du Rouet, refused to attempt the eighth jump and he was eliminated.

Only four riders were still on clear after the first round of a highly technical course designed for the 45 competitors in the individual jumping final at Horsley Park Sunday.

As competitors rode in reverse order of merit from the qualifying rounds, it was not until the 39th rider showed sufficient judgement, technique and a little luck, to produce the first clear round. Once Thomas Velin (DEN) and Carnute had shown it was possible. Clear rounds two, three and four followed from the leading riders after the three qualifying rounds. Competition leader, Brazil`s Rodrigo Pessoa, was lucky when his stallion Baloubet De Rouet almost knocked down the "bogey fence", a double combination with water underneath both elements. Pessoa, in search of his first individual Olympic medal, cleared the rest of the course in great style.

Considered an outsider at the start of the competition, Saudi Arabian, Khaled Al Eid, was in contention for individual gold after completing a clear first round. Al Eid is coached by Pessoa`s father Nelson Pessoa a legend in the showjumping world.

Holland`s Jeroen Dubbeldam with De Sjiem kept his good form from the first three qualifiers and stayed clear as well. Strong winds have plagued the Equestrian Centre Sunday, and forced some competitors to delay the start of their rounds while jumps were rebuilt and secured with sandbags.

Medal winners are determined from the combined scores of the two rounds, and a jump-off.
